Why Cloud and Infra Will Eventually Merge
cloudinfrastructureorg designleadership
The Wall Between Dev and Infra Is Crumbling
If you’ve worked in a cloud org for more than 6 months, you’ve seen it: infra teams trying to shift left, developers wrestling with YAML, and everyone realizing there’s no clean handoff anymore.
Infra Isn’t Dead, It’s Just Changing Clothes
Old-school infra meant racks, power, and patch cables. New-school infra means Terraform, cost optimization, and container orchestration. The core responsibility is still there — just abstracted.
Org Implications
Here’s what I see coming:
- Infra and Cloud will sit in the same org, or become indistinguishable
- Developers will expect paved paths, not snowflake VMs
- Your platform team is your infra team now
What I’m Doing About It
I’m building teams that recognize this shift and embrace it. The companies that get this right will move faster, break less, and retain the best engineers.
